Family Friday – Beginnings

I enjoy reading blogs by other moms. In fact, sometimes I enjoy them too much, especially late at night when I should be in bed. They inspire me in many ways, and I appreciate the opportunity they give me and others to have a sneak peek into their lives. Sometimes I have to fight the urge to start a whole new blog starring my family, and then I remember all the other projects I have going on, and how much time I already spend on the computer.

Truth be told, probably the biggest reason I have refrained from starting a family blog is that I would prefer to share my stories and anecdotes in the journals I have started for each of my kids, journals which I write in once a month and plan to hand to them at some point in their early adult years. But that craving remains, so I’ve come up with a new idea: I’ll do my family blogging one day a week, share a couple photos, a story or thought, and call it Family Friday.

In honor of beginnings, I’ll start by sharing my personal (not related to Birth a Miracle Services) goals for 2010. The photos shown here are of my youngest child, taken at four weeks old last month. They were taken by my friend Renee, and arrived just in time to add to my first family blog post. How fitting!

Goals for 2010

  1. Finish editing my book, Inspired Birth, and have a concrete publishing plan.
  2. Lose the pregnancy weight.
  3. Grow and prepare more herbs. I started with comfrey a couple years ago and now I’m getting courageous and starting a few more. I’d also like to learn multiple ways to prepare them for medicinal use.
  4. Read the Bible more frequently. My current Bible reading consists of reading The Children’s Bible Story by Catherine Vos to my three year old son, Nemo. Excellent book by the way, I highly recommend it!
  5. Develop a family schedule after my two month old son, Atlas, begins sleeping regularly. I’ve been toying with this for a while, but as Daphney (my 20 month old daughter) expresses her irregularity in increasing measure, I’m realizing she needs a consistent schedule more than the rest of us. So this goal is really top on the list.

There are lots of other things I’d like to do, but I’m trying, trying, trying to keep it simple, especially since this list does not reflect all the major things going on in our lives. Like, raising three kids under age four, my husband possibly facing unemployment from his job in construction because no one can afford to build houses anymore, preparing to defend ourselves against our progressively more socialist government, establishing stronger theological beliefs about Christianity, becoming more self-sufficient, and of course, becoming a midwife and running Birth a Miracle Services. Although this blog is primarily related to my business (and Haley’s!), this new weekly post will give you a glimpse into my life, and I look forward to writing about it to encourage you and as a way to express all the ideas floating around in my head!
