I get a few parenting and pregnancy magazines. Not that I learn a whole lot from them but once in a while I get a few tid bits of useful or interesting information. Like this morning I read American Baby’s February 2009 issue, in the “crib notes” section that 2.5 billion dollars are spent yearly on cesarean sections. This number was figured by the Childbirth Connection based on the national c-sec rate of 31% in 2006. I did a little math on my own and figured out that if our national rate was a more reasonable 10%, the cost would hover at 804 million dollars. Still a big numer, yes, but a little more reasonable than 2.5 BILLION! Can I say, WOW?!
